Thought Leadership : Less is More !

As humans our basic instinct continues to Amass. To gather and to hold on to that as the most priced object. We always take pride in the number of awards won; number of accolades; number of degrees, certifications etc.… even we rank our sports personalities such as the tennis players with number of grand slams wins or a cricketer with number of runs made… here it is “more” the better. More is associated with positivity while less continue to be considered as negative.

However, to achieve that “more” what is it that is working like a clockwork at the backdrop? It is minimizing the distractions; reducing the errors; keeping the faults low. This implies that as you wish to progress and measure your success, it is critical that you focus and your only watchword becomes clarity. To concentrate, it is important that you pick up the most reliable, most useful, most informative to ensure that the desired outcome is the Best. So, here you had many, voluminous information and zillions of distractions; but it is important that you clear out the layers and rise above with “Numero Uno”.

Even our epics taught us the elements of unwavering focus through Arjuna & Dronacharya’s lesson of shooting. The story goes that when Dronacharya wanted to test the concentration of his students, he placed a wooden bird on a tree and asked his students to aim at its eye and ask each one of them what they saw. All of them mentioned everything starting from sky, bird, leaves forest etc.; it was only Arjuna who mentioned that he saw the eye of the bird and hence when he shot, it hit the target effortlessly.

Isn’t it less clearly more ?

Today, Minimalism is gaining popularity. It is not required that you need to carry everything with you; on the contrary it is important that you gain clarity to understand what is required and once the process of identification is initiated and the awareness begins, the results are not sporadic brilliance but continuous progress.

  1. Perfectly summed up and a wonderful writeup!

The concepts of Frugal Innovation, Minimalism and even Jugaad Mentality have gained so much popularity in recent years that these are being incorporated in the B-school curriculums today.

Feeding your focus and starving your distractions is the way to go.
